Meta Quest Customers Can Now Swipe and Tap in VR Without The Need for Controllers

Meta today announced improvements to the Quest platform in the v50 OS upgrade. This includes an experimental feature called Direct Touch, which allows users to tap and swipe with just their hands. The company also upgraded the Meta Quest Touch Pro controllers and added an in-game multitasking option to Meta Quest 2.

Meta already supports hand tracking. launched on Quest in 2019. Users will be able to touch the screen to interact with VR. Direct Touch allows users to touch buttons and swipe through the game library, then use their hands to write messages on the virtual keyboard.

Last week, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared an Instagram reel that showcases the new feature. It’s almost like using a touchscreen on a smartphone, as can be seen in the video. This will appeal to many users.
