Microsoft Permanently Disables Internet Explorer Across All Devices

Microsoft has some very sad news for Internet Explorer users this Valentine’s Day. Internet Explorer is gone.

Microsoft announced Tuesday that the company had permanently disabled Internet Explorer desktop on certain Windows 10 versions and upgraded to Microsoft Edge.

The company stated that all other commercial and consumer devices that were not already redirected to Microsoft Edge from Explorer will be affected. Users will now be redirected from Explorer to Edge when they attempt to access Explorer.

The company released 11 versions of Explorer over the course of its existence

Microsoft launched the browser in 1995, making it one of the most popular internet browsers at the time. The final version was released in 2013.

Microsoft Edge, the newer browser from a tech giant, was released in 2015 as Explorer’s replacement. However, it co-existed until this week on devices that had Explorer.

Microsoft announced in June that it would be retiring Explorer. However, the app was still available for use on Tuesday.

Internet Explorer 11’s visual elements, icons and icons in the start menu and taskbars will be phased out by June.

Microsoft Edge is faster, safer, and more modern than Internet Explorer. It can open legacy Internet Explorer-dependent sites, but it has been criticized by the company in its announcement.
