Uber Will Shut Down Its Data Centers after It Signs A Cloud Agreement with Oracle, Google

Uber and Oracle have reached agreements to move 95% of their data center contents to the cloud. Additionally, Uber plans to use additional services like Google Ads, Google Maps platform and Cloud Spanner database service. The agreements will last for seven years. Uber’s move to the Google Cloud Platform and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure will allow it to increase its efficiency and scale while also reducing costs. Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber CEO, stated that the transfer should be completed “within a few months.”

It is interesting to note that Google’s and Oracle’s cloud offerings don’t lead the sector, falling behind Amazon’s AWS and Microsoft’s Azure. Uber will use the agreement to transfer its data and apps from its existing infrastructure to Google Cloud. This includes artificial intelligence, machine learning, security, microservices, and security.
