Raquel Welch Has Passed Away, Star of Fantastic Voyage’, at The Age 82

According to Steve Sauer, her manager, Raquel Welch has passed away. She was a veteran actress who became famous in 1960s films like “One Million Years B.C.” or “Fantastic Voyage.”

According to a statement, Welch passed away Wednesday morning in Los Angeles following a brief illness.

With more than 70 credits in television and film, the actress started her career as a spokesmodel for “Hollywood Palace” and a small part in “Roustabout,” an Elvis Presley film in 1964.

Two years later, her career was on the rise with the release of “Fantastic Voyage”, a science fiction movie about scientists who are shrinked and injected into a man with a serious illness. “One Million Years, B.C.” is a prehistoric drama that featured Welch as Loana, a cavewoman. The film’s marketing campaign used photos of Welch in fur bikinis to promote the movie and make Welch an international sex icon. The poster was used as a key device in “The Shawshank Redemption,” which became an acclaimed movie.

His career in television and film spans decades. In the late 1960s, Welch starred in a number of roles including “Bandolero!” as well as “100 Rifles”, the latter being notable for Welch’s controversial interracial love scene featuring ex-football star Jim Brown.

Following the immediate success of “Fantastic Voyage”, and “One Million Years B.C.,” Welch played Lilian Lust in “Bedazzled” in 1967. This film was later remade with Elizabeth Hurley and Brendan Fraser in 2000.
