The Record-breaking IPhone Sold at Auction for $63,000

The record-breaking sale of a first-generation iPhone at auction was $63,356, the highest ever for an original iPhone.

The iPhone was still in its factory sealed packaging and sold at LCG auctions (opens in a new tab on Sunday evening) for $52,797. An additional 20% buyer’s fee brought the total to more than $60,000.

Karen Green, a cosmetic tattoo artist and owner of the 8GB smartphone, received it as a thank you gift for her new job. The iPhone was the first to feature a 3.5-inch screen and a 2-megapixel camera. It retailed for $599, which is a far cry from the best iPhone today with its 6.7 inch display and a 48-megapixel camera.
