CUPERTINO (Calif.) — Apple’s new iPhones will have better cameras, faster processors, and a longer battery. All this is despite inflationary pressures that have driven up the prices of many everyday items.

The pricing decision was made Wednesday at Apple’s first product event in person in three years. It came as a surprise. Analysts predicted that Apple would demand its loyal fans to pay up to 15% to offset the rising costs of many components.

Apple’s new iPhone 14 models are part of a post-Labor Day ritual that the company has been staging for over a decade. The event took place on Wednesday at the company’s Cupertino campus, California. It was held in a theater named for Steve Jobs. The event was dominated by prerecorded video presentations that Apple’s CEO Tim Cook had recorded during events during the pandemic.

Apple’s latest iPhones have been delivering incremental improvements to battery life and cameras for several years. The standard iPhone 14 will be priced at $799, while the deluxe iPhone 14 Pro Max model will cost $1099.

The 12-megapixel cameras in the iPhone 13 Pro Max and Pro Max versions have been upgraded to 12MP.

The company claims that the new 48-megapixel camera on the Pro and Pro Max models will produce sharper images. The high-end models this year will have always-on displays that remain lit even when the device’s locked. This feature is a long-standing feature on many Android smartphones.

All iPhone 14 models will now be able to send SOS messages via satellite starting in November. This is a safety measure that allows users to request assistance in remote areas, even if they don’t have a wireless connection.
