WhatsApp Users Will Be Able to Send Messages During Internet Blackouts

The instant messaging app will allow people to connect to proxy servers in order to stay online in case the internet is blocked or hindered. This move was inspired by the government’s decision to block the internet due to protests in Iran. Meta-owned company hopes this “never happens” again.

They also declared the move a violation of human rights and “refrained from providing urgent assistance to anyone who needed it”.
