The Avon Police Department Provides Safe Areas for Online Purchase Exchanges

Sandoval stated that he knows of a lot more such cases in the area, with people selling fake plates to people believing they are legitimate plates. “If you are caught driving one of these, it is a charge, even if you don’t know the facts. It is always a good idea to stop people from getting into trouble they don’t deserve. If we can do our part to help, that would be great.

Sandoval stated that even if individuals choose to do their internet exchanges themselves, there are steps they can take to reduce fraud risk.

Sandoval stated that “we always encourage people to perform it in a publicly accessible area where there’s footage,” Sandoval added.

Sandoval also suggested that bringing another person to the meetup is a good idea.

Sandoval stated that if they facilitate it at any time, it could feel like it is fraudulent. He advised that he would give (Avon Police Department), a call and that we’d be happy to help.

Sandoval recommended that people examine the person at the other end of the screen before initiating exchanges.

Sandoval stated, “Never complete a transaction without knowing for sure what you’re getting” It’s always a good idea to check out the profile of the person you are considering buying items online. You can also look at any reviews they have posted about other sellers or information about them.

Sandoval advised that if exchanges are made via Facebook, it is a good idea to check their profile for red flags that may indicate fraud.

“Sometimes we have fake sellers who create fake Facebook profiles and have no friends or photos. They just create an account to sell an item. Once they sell it, they delete it. We don’t have any leads.”

Sandoval stated that it is possible to verify a person via FaceTime or video before you send money to someone online. Sandoval said again that it is best to meet face-to-face in a public place and well-lit.

Sandoval stated that “if people happen to be in another agency’s (jurisdiction), another town, or a different county, and they want to ensure what they’re doing’s legal, they’re more than welcome to come to the Avon Police Department. You know, our community doesn’t just Avon.” “Our community is all the people in the United States. We can help anyone.
