The Avon Police Department Provides Safe Areas for Online Purchase Exchanges

On top of the video footage recorded outside the Avon Police Department, officers helping facilitate transactions occurring outside the station will also have access to their bodycam video and audio footage of the meetup.

Sandoval stated that the indoor community meeting spot is available for transactions occurring between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The indoor spot allows people to conduct their transactions in either the lobby of Avon Police Department or in the department’s interview room. Sandoval stated that both spots have audio and video surveillance.

Sandoval stated that officers might have a better chance of detecting fraudulent transactions, which can often be linked to internet transactions if they are provided with security at meetup locations.

“We get so many fraudulent (transactions), you have no idea — it’s insane,” Sandoval said

Sandoval stated that meeting in person is an important step to ensure that a transaction isn’t fraudulent. He explained that fraud is possible even when transactions are conducted in person. Sandoval advised anyone who is unsure about the legitimacy of online transactions to contact the department.

Sandoval stated that Avon Police Officers might be better equipped to detect a scam than average consumers because they have all the tools available.

Sandoval stated, “That’s why they’re here.” People often think that we are here to arrest people or pull over people, but in reality, we are here to serve the community. If you need help determining if something is legitimate, please let us know. We can even check it out for you to verify that it is legitimate.

He said that double-checking the legitimacy before a transaction is made can help prevent people from losing money or getting into problems.

Sandoval stated that even though they were unaware of it, people who drive around with fake license plates are still subject to criminal prosecution.
