Spotify And Apple May Be Outmatched by TikTok Music Apps

ByteDance has already had experience streaming music. ByteDance launched Resso music streaming app in India, Brazil, and Indonesia in 2020. Resso includes many of the same features as “TikTok music”, such as the ability to create playlists and share songs via social media. It also allows you to interact with the community.

TikTok is even used by ByteDance to connect existing users with Resso. 

A report by The Information states that the TikTok Brazil app has a button that redirects users directly to Resso to listen to the full version. This is a great move to keep users in the ByteDance community.

The Information reports that Resso has over 40 million monthly users in India, Brazil, and Indonesia as of November 20,21. This number is likely to rise. A report by an insider revealed that Resso’s monthly users increased by 304 percent in India between January 2021 and January 2022, compared to Spotify’s 38 percent growth.

It is unclear if ByteDance will develop a music streaming app using the Resso framework or if it will create something entirely new. The impact TikTok made on social media platforms was profound. It’s possible that a music streaming service with TikTok tie-ins will change the music streaming industry and force services to adapt.
