Galaxy Z Flip4 & Z Fold4 will be available in select markets starting August 26th.

Counterpoint Research predicted that global shipments will rise to 16 million smartphones this year. This is just 1.2% of 1.36 billion smartphone shipment forecasts. However, it’s a significant increase from the 9 million foldable shipped in 2013.

Analysts believe that the overall smartphone market will shrink this year, but foldable smartphones will do better because of their unique form factor, large screens, and portability.

In the first half of 2022, Samsung held 62% of the market for foldable smartphones. Oppo had 3% and Huawei 16%. Counterpoint predicts that Samsung will have a share of around 80% in the second half after the new releases.

Samsung stated that it aims to sell more foldable phones than its previous flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note in the second half.

“Foldables have helped Samsung distinguish itself… Apple will become Samsung’s main competitor in the future, and we expect a folding device to be released by Apple in either 2024/ 2025,” stated Jene Park, Counterpoint senior analyst.

Samsung claims that the new models make it easier to use popular apps like Instagram and Microsoft’s Outlook.
