One Researcher Used A $25 Device to Hack Elon Musk’s Starlink Network.

Elon Musk has put over 3,000 satellites into orbit. Starlink provides satellite internet access coverage to 36 countries. It took only one Belgian cyber security researcher and a $25 homemade device to discover the first major security hole in Starlink’s user interface.

WIRED explains that Wouters had the satellite dish removed to allow him to attach a modchip made from cheap, standard parts. The homemade printed circuit board can launch a fault injection attack, bypassing Starlink’s security system and allowing access to control functions Starlink intended to keep locked down.
