Heche’s representative told ET that they lost “a bright light”, a kind and joyful soul, a loving mother, friend, and a shining star. Anne will be greatly missed, but she lives on through her sons, her iconic work, and her passionate advocacy. Her courage in standing up for her truth and spreading her message about love and acceptance will have a lasting effect.

Homer, Heche’s son aged 20, also responded to the actress’s death in a statement.

ET spoke to him and his brother, 13 years old, saying that Atlas and he had lost their Mom. “After six days filled with almost impossible emotional swings, I feel a deep, unspoken sadness. I hope my mom is now free of pain and able to begin to imagine what she would like for her eternal freedom.

He said, “Over the six days, thousands, friends, and family made their hearts known” to him. “I am grateful for their support, as well as the support of my Dad, Coley, and my stepmom Alexi, who has been my rock throughout this time. Rest in Peace, Mom. I love you.
