Webb is currently undergoing a six-month-long, multi-phase commissioning period in order to align its mirrors to catch faint light from the universe. The process can be complicated by falling temperatures. Components may behave differently or align differently when they reach deep-space temperatures. NASA has the ability to make further adjustments.

Engineers were happy to not have to perform mirror realignments during Webb’s sixth phase.
