High gas prices blamed by most Americans on Vladimir Putin and the oil companies: POLL

During Wednesday’s hearing before the House, Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations oil executives took turns defending themselves and their companies. They resisted accusations of price gouging and cited the COVID-19 Pandemic as the reason for increased costs.

Democrats pointed to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to be the cause of rising gas prices.

President Joe Biden called it “Putin’s price rise” while Republicans argued that Biden’s energy policies were to blame.

While the public is open to Democratic arguments they are more inclined to blame Democratic party policies (52%), Biden (51%), and Trump (24%) for the price rises. The way Biden handles gas prices is also strongly disapproved of by a strong majority of Americans (68%) These assessments are divided along party lines. Nearly all Republicans (93%) disagree with the way Biden handles gas prices, while 41% of Democrats agree.
