Activision: If Necessary, We Will “Fight” for the Xbox and Microsoft Merger

Activision’s CCO has made a statement to us recently and posted it publicly via a tweet, suggesting that Activision is prepared to fight the merger in court if necessary. Lulu Cheng Meservey stresses that Activision and Microsoft are also working together to address their concerns.

Windows, by contrast, is open to all and has many competing storesfronts

My view is that the deal will eventually pass. The deal is being scrutinized by regulators, which is right. Meta’s purchase by Instagram and WhatsApp could limit consumer choice and innovation while also allowing Google or Apple to have a blanket monopoly over how software can be delivered to all mobile devices around the globe, as regulators of yesteryear did not properly evaluate it.

Microsoft repeatedly mentioned the Apple-Google mobile duopoly when responding to regulators. It also noted its plans to eventually build a rival Xbox app store for mobile. This it hopes regulators will force Apple and Google onto their platforms.

The merger is still being evaluated by the EU, UK CMA and U.S. FTC. I expect we will continue to hear about it in the future. Microsoft previously stated that it expects to close the deal in the summer 2023.
