UN bans Russia from the Human Rights Council

“Russia shouldn’t be in a position of authority within a body whose sole purpose is to promote respect for the human rights. Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield stated that it was dangerous and not only hypocritical.

She stated, “Everyday we see more and greater evidence of how Russia disregards human rights.”

She argued that Russia’s participation in the Human Rights Council undermines its credibility. It is a threat to the UN as a whole. It is simply wrong.”

Sergiy Kyslytsya (the Ukrainian ambassador to United Nations) called for all United Nations member countries to support the resolution suspending Russia.
