The Leader of QAnon Conspiracy Theory Returns
After more than a decade of silence, the mysterious person behind the QAnon conspiracy theory is back.
Q, the figure who is only known as Q, posted his first post in over a year Friday on 8kun. This anonymous message board was where the account last appeared. “Shall-we play the game again?” was the post, which was written in the usual cryptic style of the account. The unique identifier that was used in previous Q posts belonged to the account that was posted.
These posts shocked disinformation researchers and indicated the impending return of a figure whose conspiracy theories regarding an elite sex trafficking ring gathered support for then-President Donald J. Trump. QAnon’s news was a big hit on Telegram and message boards. Followers speculated about Q’s meaning.
In late 2017, the QAnon conspiracy theory was discovered on anonymous message boards. It quickly gained support from a large number of Trump supporters. Q published cryptic messages that claimed to be about the overthrow of an elite “cabal,” of sex-traffickers. Many believed Q was involved in the Trump administration, or the military. They also believed Mr. Trump was trying to prosecute child abusers as well as Democrats.
