Justin Trudeau Directs Attention to U.S. Canada Vows to End Gun Violence

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau highlighted gun violence in America and introduced new legislation to put a “national stop” on handgun sales in Canada.

Trudeau stated Monday that it will be impossible to import, buy, sell, transfer, or transfer handguns anywhere within Canada. In other words, we are limiting the market for handguns.

According to a press release by the prime minister’s Office, these proposed measures would also revoke firearms licenses from those involved in domestic violence and criminal harassment. They would also increase penalties for gun smugglers. A “red flag” law would force individuals considered to be a threat to themselves or others to surrender firearms.

Trudeau, 50, stated that “Unfortunately, it is the truth in our country [gun violence] has been getting worse and has continued getting worse over these past years.” We need to look just south to see that it only gets worse if we don’t take swift and firm action.
