TikTok Unveils New Ways of Filtering Out Problematic Or Mature Videos

TikTok said that it is introducing a new system to organize content according to thematic maturity. This is similar to the rating systems in television and film.

Videos deemed to contain mature or complex themes will be given a “maturity rating” by the new safeguards.

According to Keenan’s goal, “to prevent content with overtly adult themes reaching audiences between the ages of 13 and 17 years,”

After a Facebook whistleblower raised concerns about the effects social media platforms had on children, Senator interviewed executives from TikTok and YouTube about their protections.

A coalition of state attorneys general also launched an investigation earlier in the year to examine TikTok’s impact on young Americans. TikTok stated that it does not limit its features based on age, gives parents tools and resources, and design its policies with young people in mind.

Keenen stated Wednesday in a blog post that the company is focused on “further safeguarding the teen’s experience” and would add new functionality to allow for more detailed content filtering options over the next few weeks.
