Abbott announced that Texas will provide charter buses to transport illegal immigrants from Texas to Washington, D.C. in order to help local officials who are overwhelmed by illegal immigrants being dropped off in their communities by the Biden government. “We’re sending them to Washington, D.C. where the Biden administration can more quickly address the needs of the illegal immigrants they have allowed to cross our border.”

Abbott also announced an “enhanced public security inspection of vehicles crossing from Mexico to Texas at ports of entry.”

Abbott acknowledged that the new policy will “dramatically slow down traffic from Mexico to Texas”, but said that the governor stated that the process was necessary in order to reduce cartel traffic coming from Mexico.

Abbott stated that the two strategies were in addition to announcing additional actions to further discourage illegal immigrants. These included deploying boat blockades in appropriate areas of the Rio Grande River, razor wire deployment at low-water crossings, and creating container blockades in order to drive people away at low water crossings.
