Russian Instagram Users Are Informed That Service Will Be Halted At Midnight

After Meta Platforms, the owner of Instagram in Russia, stated last week that it would allow users to post messages like “Death to Russian Invaders” on social media platforms in Ukraine, they have notified users of the service that it will be ending at midnight on Sunday.

The state communications regulator sent an email encouraging users to delete their Instagram photos and videos before the site was closed down. It also encouraged them to switch to Russia’s “competitive” internet platforms.

Meta, which also controls Facebook ( Facebook), stated Friday that the temporary modification to its hate speech policy was only applicable to Ukraine in the wake Russia’s February 24th invasion.
