Russia is pushed to the edge of default by the US
Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesperson, said Wednesday that significant amounts of our foreign reserves were blocked in countries. “If this blocking continues and these transfers are blocked from the block amounts, then they’ll be serviced with rubles.” “If that is impossible, then, in theory, it can be organized as a default situation.”
Peskov claimed that defaults would be artificial because the company has the money to pay them — but it can’t access them.
Peskov stated that there is no reason for a default. “Not even close.”
After images of atrocities in Bucha, Ukraine, the United States is trying to increase pressure on Russia. The Treasury announced Wednesday that Russia will be denied access to its dollars. Additionally, the Biden administration announced new sanctions against Russian financial institutions as well as individuals. This includes the two daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the wife/daughter of Russian Putin’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov.
