Welch also played the title role in 1970’s Myra Breckinridge, in which she was a transgender actress.

Welch was a regular on sitcoms in the 1990s. She appeared in “Seinfeld” as an actress, where she played herself to honor the legendary diva she was. Welch was also seen in “Spin City”, “Evening Shade” as well as “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch”.

Welch continued to be a legend even after the turn of this century. Reese Witherspoon starred alongside Welch in “Legally Blonde”, 2001. She portrayed Mrs. Windham Vandermark (ex-wife of Hayworth Windham), whose murder Witherspoon’s Elle Woods solves.

The “sex symbol”, moniker that Welch was given, remained despite the increasing momentum.

“Part of being a sex symbol can be very flattering and it can help you get success – but only up to a point,” Welch stated in an interview with Cinema.com about the 2001 release of “Tortilla Soup.” She also said that “it does cloud people’s imagination.”

They don’t believe you can do anything else.

Welch’s last professional credit was in 2017 when the iconic star starred in Rosa, the mother in-law of a single father, in UPtv’s “Date My Dad.”

Welch also spent time as an entrepreneur. This included jewelry, skincare, and wig lines.

According to her manager, the star has left behind her son Damon Welch (and her daughter Tahnee Welch).
