Ransomware Threat to Android Smartphones & Targets Gmail Cookies

Ransomware is often thought of as a threat that targets organizations and businesses and gains access to their networks. Cleafy security researchers discovered a new threat module in the SOVA mobile banking trojan’s July versions. They also found evidence that the malware is attempting to steal your Google Password Manager, GPay, and Gmail cookies.

What does the SOVA malware do to your smartphone?

This powerful piece of Android malware can intercept two-factor authentication codes, steal cookies and data, take screenshots, and protect itself from being uninstalled. The malware’s fourth version, which was sold on dark web criminal forums, is capable of recording and performing gestures as well as managing multiple commands according to the Cleafy Report. These commands include copying, clicking, copying, pasting, and, as an old chestnut, activating an over-the-top screen to conceal what’s going on.
