Jan. 6 Panel Receives Emails That An Ex-Trump Lawyer Tried Shield

According to the emails, Eastman and other Trump aides discussed various ways to stop Congress from certifying 2020 election results. This includes weaponizing the courts.

What they are saying: Judge David Carter wrote last month in court papers that this may be the first time President Trump’s staff has transformed a legal interpretation under the Electoral Count Act to a day-by, plan of action.

He said: “In an email thread, Dr. Eastman’s colleagues discuss whether or not to publish a piece supporting the plan. They touch on state lawsuits to criticize Trump’s handling of them.”

“Another email thread sees Dr. Eastman and a colleague discuss how to use a ruling from a state court to support Vice President Pence’s enactment of the plan. A colleague addresses the “plan of action” after the January 6 attacks in another email.
