Browder was the CEO and used stakeholder activism to expose corruption within Russian oligarchs’ companies. Browder’s confrontational style of investing created huge profits and the long list of foes.

Putin is one of his most feared enemies. 

Putin specifically mentioned Browder during the 2016 Mueller investigation. He was made a national security risk to Russia in 2005. During negotiations, Putin offered that the US could travel into Russia to conduct suspect interrogations if Russian law enforcement could do so, as The New York Times reported.

The former investor is now a human rights activist who focuses on Kremlin politics.
