Dwayne Hakins, the Steelers’ quarterback, was a star at Ohio State and a former first-round pick by the Washington Commanders. CBS Sports NFL Insider Josina A Anderson confirmed. He was 24.

Haskins was walking westbound on Interstate 595 in Fort Lauderdale when he was struck by a truck. A spokesperson for Florida Highway Patrol, Lt. Indiana Miranda, confirmed this to the Associated Press. At 6:37 AM, the fatal accident caused the highway to close for several hours. ET. Haskins was declared dead at the scene. An investigation into traffic homicide remains open, per The Washington Post.
