World Swimming Org Bans Trans Women Swimmers Who Have Reached Puberty

FINA, French for the International Swimming Federation, made this weekend’s decision regarding transgender swimmers (specifically transwomen) participating in women’s swim. They say it’s no-go and will continue to do so with some caveats.

According to the org’s policy, male-to-female swimmers can compete in women’s events if they have transitioned before 12 years of age or before Tanner Stage 2 (whichever comes first). They believe that transgender women who have already experienced male puberty will be able to compete in women’s events.
