World Swimming Org Bans Trans Women Swimmers Who Have Reached Puberty

This conclusion was based on multiple reports, studies, and presentations from 3 specialist groups. They presented their findings to FINA, which is made up of members of 152 national Federations. The FINA vote then went 71% in favor.

A representative for Prez of FINA stated to AP that the Prez is encouraging people to transition before the age of 12. Scientists are saying that transitioning after puberty is a good idea.

FINA’s new rules will not be accepted by NCAA agencies.

The spox says, “They’re saying not everyone should transition by the age 11 that’s absurd.” In most countries, you can’t transition before that age and I don’t think it would be wise to. They are basically saying that people who have successfully transitioned cannot compete with others without an advantage. They clarified that there are currently no trans women competing at elite swimming levels… possibly meaning international competition.

FINA considers an “open competition” category to be inclusive for trans swimmers. They are currently working with a group to explore the issue further.

Lia is currently allowed to participate in collegiate swimming. This year, she won the national title in women’s swimming at 500 m freestyle.

However, there are some who welcome the news… such as Caitlyn Jeanner. She has been advocating for such changes for a while and says that transgender athletes have an undeniable advantage over their cisgender competitors.

She wrote: “It worked!” It was a lot of heat, but it was fair. You shouldn’t be allowed to take the medals from females if you are going through male puberty. Period.”

Lia doesn’t seem to have made any public comments yet.
