Save Energy, Prevent Crisis!

The entire world is operating on energy, and when that lessens, no wonder it will be a crisis! As per IEA, one of the best ways to save this energy will be if countries with higher economies cut down a bit on their consumption. That’s why the plea from IEA came into the limelight lately.

In fact, the world may confront an energy crisis soon due to the recent Russia-Ukraine dispute. According to the IEA Executive director, Faith Birol, the world is likely to face one of its biggest oil supply predicaments due to the war.

In a press release, he says, “Due to Russia’s appalling aggression against Ukraine, the world may well be facing its biggest oil supply shock in decades, with huge implications for our economies and societies. We can also act on demand to avoid the risk of a crippling oil crisis.”

IEA also talks about how lessening oil consumption from advanced economies can cut down around 2.7 million barrel demand in just four months. That’s a pretty decent amount of energy that we will be saving from the cut downs.

Speaking of further actions that could be taken by the countries to avoid the crisis, IEA talked about some simple measures. First things first, the public could avoid driving their own cars and go for carpools, public transport, or bikes. Another alternative is to walk to reach the destination, especially if the location is nearby!

To make it more convenient and reasonable for travelers, IEA asked the public transport operators to lower the fares. That way, passengers would consider taking the bus/train instead of their own cars.

IEA also talked about remote work and how working from home could be a big help for saving energy. The more people work from their homes, the less they will use the transport and hence, lesser energy consumption! If not entirely, encouraging remote work for several days weekly could be a big help.

They also mentioned car-free Sundays and electric-car usage. If people go car-free every Sunday, the world will save considerable energy from the same. Also, using energy-efficient vehicles like electric cars is a great alternative to gas-oriented cars.

Another benefit from adopting these measures will be lesser pollution. Be it air or noise pollution; the world will benefit in both ways. And ofcourse, it wouldn’t hurt people to breathe in fresher air and less noise for once!

Not Temporary But Permanent

Besides that, IEA talked about how if people want to use their cars, they should keep their speed slow. Likewise, they should also keep their air conditioning low to enhance the fuel efficiency of the car. Also, trains are a much better alternative to flights. So, it’s worth traveling on the same.

The IEA also stated that these measures shouldn’t be adopted temporarily. People should start practicing these steps to avoid other crises like climate change! It’s our earth, after all, and we shouldn’t be avoiding those issues too. While these were the directives by the IEA, let’s see how much people follow the rules.
