Google Will Slow Rollout AI App that Creates Art from Text

DALL-E, an AI imaging technology that produces vivid images from a short text description, can be used to create pictures like the one of a teddy bear shopping in Egypt for groceries. Critics warn that so-called “generative AI” can be misused to spread misinformation, credit artists’ work, and enforce harmful biases. Eck stated that Google’s slow rollout to the public is indicative of concerns about the emerging technology.

“But, we must also acknowledge the risks this technology could pose if it isn’t used with great care. That’s why we have been slow to release them.

Google also announced improvements to its AI tools, which can be used for tasks like coding and audio generation. It also offers a text-creation program that authors can use in order to create short stories. Google also stated that it aims to have 1 000 languages available in its translation services. It also plans to expand climate, health and technology such as flood forecasting.
