Rick Ross, a rapper of “Hustlin'”, tweeted “We lost a youthful legend”. Drake, who toured in 2018 with Migos, shared an Instagram tribute to Takeoff, as well as a photo of them on stage. “It was the greatest memory of us all seeing the world together, bringing light to every place we touched. For now, that’s what I will be focusing on. Rest easy spaceman Take,” he wrote along with a rocket emoticon.

Police said that Takeoff, whose real identity is Kirshnik Khari Ball was shot and killed in the early hours of Tuesday morning outside the 810 Billiards & Bowling downtown Houston after a private party. He was 28. Quavo, Takeoff’s uncle and one-third of Migos was also there at the time. He was not hurt.

Police asked the public for tips and stated that shots were fired after an argument. According to police, there is no evidence that the rapper was involved. They also stated that an investigation is ongoing.

Takeoff was part of the hip hop trio Migos. This Grammy-nominated, Atlanta-based group, which he founded with Quavo (the unofficial frontman) and Offset, was also Grammy-nominated.

Migos was formed in Georgia in 2008 and became a major band with the hit song “Versace”.

Takeoff’s death is just the latest in a series of shootings and murders that have occurred to prominent rappers over recent years.
