Elon Musk Introduces the Tesla Robot Optimus to the World, Calling It a Fundamental Transformation’

Friday’s demonstration shows how Musk hopes to solve the most difficult problem in robotics and artificial Intelligence:

How to create a machine capable of replacing a human.

Companies like Amazon, Google and Google have been working for years to develop robots that can move and, in a feat that is deceptively difficult — pick up and work on objects with mechanized hands or claws.

The Holy Grail of technology, which would allow companies to replace human workers with inexhaustible robotics, has yet to be achieved.

Tesla enthusiasts, investors, and online influencers poured into the presentation Friday. They arrived in Palo Alto (Calif.) to see a piece of clear symbolism: A model of a huge fork in the middle of a road according to photos shared on social media.

Musk also unveiled the robot last year at the same event. Musk stated that the cyborg would stand approximately 5-foot-8 and would not be capable of doing complex tasks. He also said that it would be friendly. It would help with repetitive tasks, which would make physical labor more feasible.

Musk stated that a person can “run away” from it and most likely overcome it.

Musk acknowledged Friday that this year’s demo was more sophisticated than the one before it.

He said, “As you all know it was just one person wearing a robot suit last year.”

The Tesla bot is part of the long-term company effort to bring about a new era in automation. In this era, computer algorithms make human-like decisions and gain knowledge without human input.

Companies are looking for new ways to automate tasks previously done by humans as the country struggles with worker shortages. Although they have been criticized by organized labor, these efforts have gained acceptance from employers when they improve worker safety and create new opportunities.

It would be groundbreaking, if not controversial, for a company to crack the code of humanoid robotics.
Optimus, if it happens, could disrupt manufacturing jobs which make up approximately 10 percent of U.S labor or $500 billion annually in wages, Gene Munster (Managing Partner of Loup Ventures) wrote in an analysis.

He said that the global market for physical labor was many times greater than U.S. manufacturing labor.
Musk is known for his overpromising, especially when it comes to his timelines. The Cybertruck pickup was unveiled by Tesla in 2019, but the windows broke during a demonstration.

Still, the truck has yet to be delivered. Musk tweeted on Thursday that the truck would be “waterproof enough for use briefly as a boat.”

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving technology is the basis of the robot’s computer. It offers a range of features that allow cars to move without any driver input. The beta test is currently underway in 160,000 vehicles. Tesla insists that drivers must be attentive at all times.

Musk stated that he is concerned about artificial intelligence and how it could outsmart us. He cited AI as the greatest threat to civilization. He said, however, that Tesla could make sure it is safe by building the robot.

He said that “We are just making the parts necessary for a useful humanoid robotic robot,” last year. “And if not, someone else will. I think we should all make it and make it safe.
Musk gave some friendly advice in response to an account claiming to be Optimus.

He tweeted, “pls be kind to the humans.”

According to the company, the robot can perform repetitive tasks like driving to and from the store or working on cars.
In a note addressed to investors, Dan Ives, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, stated that Musk’s participation in the event would be crucial event.

Tesla’s AI Day, Battery Day, and other similar events are aimed at recruiting people and generating enthusiasm for its latest products. Musk concluded his remarks about the robot by mentioning those working in robotics and AI.

He stated that he wanted to convince “some of the most talented people on the planet to join Tesla and help to make it a reality, and bring it [the robotics] to fruition in scale so that it can benefit millions of people.”

Tesla executives expressed the hope that they could launch their robot in a matter of months or years and change the economy. It did not follow a particular product rollout schedule, like other Tesla products.
