Cheney stated that “I believe what we’ve seen is a massive, well-organized, and well-planned effort that used multiple instruments to try and overturn an election.” The committee “has received a tremendous amount of testimony and documents that, I believe, very clearly show the extent of the organization and the goal.”

She said that the objective was to “absolutely try to stop certain types of electoral votes, and to try to interfere in that official proceeding. It is clear that they knew exactly what they were doing was wrong.

She mentioned a ruling in a civil lawsuit involving the committee last week, in which a federal judge found that Trump most likely “attempted” to obstruct the joint sessions of Congress on the day of the attack. This would be a crime.

U.S. District Judge David Carter remarked on Trump’s and John Eastman’s plan to have Mike Pence, then-Vice President, determine the outcome of the 2020 elections. “Every American, and certainly the President of the United States, know that leaders in a democracy are elected, not appointed. Trump knew he was trying to undermine this principle by creating a plan called “BOLD.”
