Apple Confirms Severe New Problems for iPhone 14 Purchasers

MacRumors has seen an Apple internal memo in which Apple acknowledges activation issues. It states that there are no official fixes currently available and that support staff should not create a “repair [case] for this issue”.

Interally, the recommended course of action is also different.

MacRumors reports that “Connect to Mac or to an Apple PC with iTunes” was the first step in iOS onboarding. After being asked to connect to Wi-Fi networks, return to the previous screen and attempt again until activation succeeds.

Apple has been contacted for clarification on iOS 16.0.1 and the inconsistent information contained in the leaked memo. When I get a response, I will update this blog. I strongly recommend that older iPhone owners opt for iOS 15.7 over iOS 16 as it is currently garbage for iPhones of all ages.

09/19 Update: iPhone 14 Pro models are experiencing more problems. 9to5Mac has received reports from owners that the new 48-megapixel primary camera can’t shoot photos or videos in third-party apps such as Instagram, SnapChat, and TikTok. The lens appears to have suffered physical damage.

Luke Miani, a YouTuber (below), has shown the problem. This happens when the primary camera is used in third-party applications. The optical image stabilizer malfunctions, causing the lens to shake violently. This can be so loud that it is almost audible. Reddit and TikTok have reported this issue, and Miani reports that people who posted about it on Twitter said that they had also experienced the problem with their Pros or Pro Maxes.

This can also cause lasting damage to the camera. Miani explains that the worst thing was the damage to the camera. “It was very difficult for the camera to focus, and it eventually wouldn’t focus on objects that were close even with the stock camera app.

The phone was repaired by Apple after the user took it to the store. It remains to be seen if Apple can fix the problem in software, but it is possible for affected users to win the race against the clock before the shaking actually damages the primary camera. Apple has not yet commented on the issue but I have reached out for their assistance.
