Meghan Markle Did NOT Copy Princess Diana’s look at Queen’s Funeral

Social media users claim that Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, copied the look of Princess Diana after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. The photo in the posts is not new. It was taken at a Remembrance Day 2019 ceremony and her attire complied with the 1918 armistice dress code.

A September 12, 2022 tweet stated that “people are saying Meghan’s a baddie because of this.” Is it weird to dress up as your dead mother for a funeral?

This post features a photo collage of Markle wearing black coats, hats, and Diana. Within days of the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022, similar tweets had gathered thousands of shares via Twitter.

“I am here to support this level of petty,” another tweet from #QueenElizabeth, September 12, 2012.

These side-by-side photos were also shared on Instagram and Facebook.

A reverse image search reveals that Markle’s photo was taken on November 11, 2019, during a Remembrance Day Ceremony.

As seen here, Diana was killed in a car accident in 1997.

Jessica Storoschuk (historian and author of a blog about the British royal family) told AFP that Markle and Diana are seen wearing a poppy to honor veterans and those who didn’t return from World War I.

She said that this would be understood immediately in Canada, Britain, and other countries, as part of Remembrance Day.
