App Store Approves Telegram Update after Apple Complains about Animated Emoji

Telegram will soon have more animated Emoji

Telegram already offers animated emojis. But now, the platform has taken this feature to the next level. Users can now add multiple animated emoticons to their messages. Previously, only individual animated emojis could be sent. These animated emojis, called “Telemoji”, are now available in multiple packs.

This is where the Apple situation comes in. Durov posted a new post to his Telegram channel claiming that Apple demanded that Telemoji be removed from the next update. This is because, among the new packs, one was heavily inspired by the original iOS Emoji, but with animations made by Telegram.

Durov claims that Telemoji would have “brought an entirely new dimension” to iOS’s “static low-resolution emoji.” Telegram CEO claims that Apple has rejected the “higher quality vector animated versions of the standard Emoji.”

The App Store review team has approved the Telegram update with Telemoji. This version does not include the animated Emoji Pack inspired by Apple’s design language. Durov claims that Telegram will be motivated to make Telemoji more “unique” and “recognizable” over the long term.

Not only can Premium subscribers send Telemoji but anyone can see them in messages. Telegram can be downloaded for free from the App Store. However, the Premium subscription costs $4.99 per Month for iOS users.
