Amazon Will Support 17 Echo Devices with Matter Smart Home Assistance This Year

It’s not necessary to be picky about the apps and phones you choose. Amazon and Samsung have partnered to allow you to use SmartThings or Alexa to set up Matter hardware. The upcoming Alexa framework will allow you to control your devices through both companies’ platforms using a simple Thread network.

Amazon is therefore updating its Works with Alexa certifications (WWA), to include Matter support.

Any new device that is awarded the WWA badge must support Matter. Existing hardware that receives a Matter update will not need to go through it again. However, it will need to pass Matter certification and still need to meet Amazon’s WWA requirements.

You will still need to replace certain Echo gear. There’s also a possibility that some of your connected home devices won’t be able to support Matter. Amazon’s compatibility programs suggest that you don’t need to replace your entire setup.
