Amazon Will Support 17 Echo Devices with Matter Smart Home Assistance This Year
Amazon quickly pledged support for the Matter smart-home standard. Now it is clear when and if the technology will reach your home. The company confirmed 17 Echo devices, plugs and switches will support Matter over Wi-Fi in December. 30 Echo and Eero products will offer support for Matter over Wi-Fi by the beginning of next year. To set this up, you’ll need Android initially (Apple released the Matter-friendly iOS 161 days earlier). The focus will be the lighting. Support for iOS, Thread, and other smart home tech will be available in early 2023.
Support will be extended to Echo products older than years, including the second-generation Echo Plus (shown below). Below is the complete compatibility list. It’s possible that you don’t need to replace any of your equipment in order to be ready for Matter.
