TikTok Unveils New Ways of Filtering Out Problematic Or Mature Videos

TikTok announced Wednesday several updates to allow users to customize their viewing preferences and filter content that might be too mature or problematic for them. This comes amid renewed concern about the potential dangers that social media can pose to teens.

Cormac Keenan of Trust and Safety at the company stated that the short-form video app will be making changes to its viewing experience. Users will see fewer videos on topics that may not be suitable for one video but could prove problematic if they are viewed multiple times. Keenan mentioned topics such as extreme fitness, diet, and sadness. (TikTok’s rival Instagram also tried to stop teens from seeing certain weight-loss products.
