The original Ear (1) wireless earbuds had active noise cancellation. They used swappable silicone tips that fit snugly into the ear canal. This is a good way to achieve silence but can be uncomfortable if the buds are used for long periods. The new Ear (stick) has a half-in-ear design that is similar to AirPods. It rests in the folds and directs sound toward the ear canal. The new earbuds do not offer active noise cancellation.

The new Ear (stick), which features a 12.6-millimeter custom driver, is larger than the 11-millimeter drivers found in the (1). It will try to drown out any unwanted sounds from whatever music you are listening to. Although some sounds may escape due to the half-in-ear design, there is a way to compensate.

Although wireless earbud manufacturers try to be better than each other by making smaller charging cases that fit into pockets, that approach has not been adopted by Nothing. The original Ear (1) came with a charging case that had a dimpled lid, which allowed it to be used as an emergency fidget spinner. However, the Ear (stick) charging case looks more like a lipstick stick and must be turned to get to the buds.
