US legislators urge Google to limit the collection of location data by Google in order to protect abortionists.
On Tuesday, dozens of Democratic legislators urged Google to reduce the amount of location data it collects on its users. This is in the wake of fears that the information could be used against Abortion seekers.
More than 40 US senators and representatives criticized Google ( GOOG), which collected location data from users of its products and services, and warned that it could allow “right-wing prosecutors” to identify those who have had abortions.
The lawmakers expressed concern that Google’s current practice, which collects and retains extensive data about cell phone locations, could make abortion illegal. They also fear it will be used by far-right extremists to clamp down on those seeking reproductive health care.
