Trump filed the lawsuit in a long-running criminal probe into his business seems to be founding. In frustration at the refusal of Alvin Bragg, Manhattan District Attorney, to criminally accuse Trump, two veteran lawyers were dismissed last month.

The resignation letter of Mark Pomerantz was made public on Wednesday. Bragg was informed by him that Trump believed he had committed multiple felonies through lying to banks about his net worth and other entities.

Both the New York district attorney and the New York Attorney General spent years investigating whether Trump and his Organization attempted to reduce tax liability by minimizing asset values and trying to get favorable loan rates using fake estimates.

People familiar with the matter say that Cyrus Vance, Bragg’s predecessor decided late last year that it was his intention to seek an indictment. According to those familiar with the matter, Bragg succeeded Vance in January but had serious doubts. Bragg’s office claims that the investigation continues under new leadership.

Trump’s lawsuit appears to heavily draw on indictments brought against Special Counsel John Durham. He was assigned by William P. Barr to review the FBI’s 2016 investigation into Trump’s campaign. It often exaggerates and misstates Durham’s claims or other facts, in an effort to portray a Clinton-led conspiracy to end the Trump campaign.
