“Top Gun: Maverick” Becomes the First Tom Cruise Film Worth $1 Billion
“ Top Gun, Maverick” has reached new heights.
Paramount reports that the worldwide box-office revenue for the sequel to 1986’s blockbuster, in which Tom Cruise plays the iconic role of Pete “Maverick”, has surpassed $1 billion.

“Maverick” is the first film in Cruise’s more than 40-year career to reach the billion-dollar milestone — and it’s also the second-highest-grossing film in Paramount’s long history in terms of domestic figures, behind only 1997’s “Titanic.”

Furthermore, “Maverick,” which has been a huge success at the box office, did so in an old-fashioned manner: It opened as a record over Memorial Day weekend. And it has not slowed down much since.
