“Maverick,” which has received a lot of word-of-mouth publicity, has attracted a large audience, especially those over 35 years old. It joins December’s ” Spider-Man : No Way Home.” This is notable since this audience has been reluctant to return to theaters after the pandemic.

This movie is also the second pandemic-era movie to earn $1 billion worldwide.

Paul Dergarabedian ( SCOR), senior media analyst at Comscore told CNN Business that “for any film to join this $1 billion club, is a monumental accomplishment.” “But Top Gun: Maverick hitting $1 billion during the pandemic was a little different.”

He said, “It was the ideal movie at the right time because it starred an iconic Hollywood star in a movie which delivered on all fronts for all audiences across the globe.”

Critics also heaped praise. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie a 97% rating. It features Maverick returning to instruct a new group of pilots on how they can take on an impossible mission.

The domestic split for “Maverick,” which is currently at $520 million, and $468 million abroad, has reached more than $520 million. This film is the 50th to surpass $1 billion in global box office revenue, excluding inflation.

“Maverick”, which topped the charts over the weekend, remained at No. 2. The domestic box office took the No. 2 spot in its fifth weekend with $29.6 million. No. No. 1 was “Elvis,” the musical biopic starring Austin Butler, Tom Hanks and which grossed $31.1 million in North America.
