The Trump administration attempted to undermine the health care law in significant ways, even during the pandemic. However, the Supreme Court rejected a challenge to ACA from the Republican-led States and the former Trump administration. It left it intact. Trump stated repeatedly that he would find an alternative, but did not provide any details.

Obama’s visit comes at a time when the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services launch advertising and outreach campaigns to spread the word about a new special enrollment period for low-income Americans who have missed signing up for the 2022 Affordable Care Act coverage.

The Biden administration has increased enrollment assistance by funneling more money to navigator programs that assist people in selecting policies. It aims to enroll more people in coverage and to help those who have lost Medicaid coverage to keep their health insurance even after the public health crisis ends.

Becerra stated that “We are aware this has been a difficult time for many people and want to make it easier for them to sign-up for coverage.”
