This ‘Friends Star’ First to Reach Matthew Perry during His Active Addiction

The two talked about their time together on the hit sitcom and how his addiction affected his work. The actor pointed out that his weight changes from season to season and that you could determine if he was taking drugs or alcohol based on his appearance. Perry became so drunk while filming Serving Sara that he had no choice but to go back and rewrite his lines. His speech was so blurred that it forced him to stop the film.

He wasn’t the first person to confess to his addiction. He stated that he could not tell anyone because they might tell him to stop and that he believed he could never forgive himself for any mistakes.

His Friend’s castmates were able to catch on. One of them reached out to him first and most often: Jennifer Aniston.

Perry said that Anniston called Perry the first time and told him, “Imagine how frightening a moment that must have been.” Perry thought he was hiding the alcohol, but the rest could smell it.

Perry was not in a position at the time to deal with his addiction. But, he now says, “I’m really thankful to her for that.”

Later, many of the cast and crew members filed into his dressing area.

“What are your plans?” They asked. “Why are your actions so bizarre?” They said they knew there was something wrong and that Perry had a solution. Perry promised to stop it from happening again.

In a short excerpt from his memoir, he compared the group with penguins. He wrote, “In nature when penguins are injured, they gather around them and prop it up until its better.” This is what my Friend’s costars did for me. Although he didn’t go into detail during the interview, he continued to tell the story of how he arrived at his destination feeling hungover. He stated that Aniston and Courteney believed cardio was a “cure-all” and that he had a stationary bicycle which he used frequently to “get [his] brain strength back to normal.”
