Hawkins collaborated regularly with other musicians and groups and even started his own side projects. He began a solo career in 2006 with Taylor Hawkins & the Coattail Riders. He reunited with Chris Chaney, his former Morissette touring bassist and Jane’s Addiction bassist. Hawkins would release three albums under Taylor Hawkins’ and the Coattail Riders’ banners. He also tapped artists such as Roger Taylor, Perry Farrell and Elliot Easton, and Grohl for collaborations. Hawkins also led the cover band Chevy Metal, along with Wiley Hodgden (and Mick Murphy) and released an album in 2014 under the name Birds of Satan.

Hawkins and Chaney teamed up with Dave Navarro to form NHC, a supergroup that was formed in the wake of pandemic jam sessions held at Hawkins’ Los Angeles home studio. Hawkins stated that NHC was the first time anyone of us had been in a writing situation where we simply throw the ball. It’s almost like playing catch. “A writing session or recording session is for us all playing baseball in a yard.” The band’s debut album will be released this year.

Hawkins’ wife Alison and their three children are his survivors.
