ONLY GIRLS – Utah Legislature Overrides Governor’s Veto, Bans Biological Men from Women’s Sports

Utah’s legislature overturned the veto by Republican Governor Spencer Cox of a bill that would have banned biological males from participating in women’s sports.

The bill’s sponsor, Republican Utah state Rep. Kera Burkeland, stated that “From the beginning, my goal was to protect and preserve women’s sports and speak up for Utah’s female athletes.” “We’ve seen the need for such legislation in the past and I’m proud to fight for girls to be able to compete on an equal playing field.”

She said, “Good policy can be made by considering different viewpoints and working together to find the best solution.” “Over the last two years, I have tried to find a reasonable and balanced solution to a difficult and divisive problem. Utah has made the right decision.”
